Temperature Measurement A Pt100 probe is electrically isolated from the measuring medium, thus avoiding the possible electrical hazards or error of grounded thermocouples. This advantage is usefull in aqueous solutions where oxidation/ reduction potentials exist. The RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) is a popular alternative to thermocouples for meauring temperature. The most widely accepted RTD is platinum, termed Pt100 in industrial applications. Where as ageing in thermocouples and thermistors will lead to long term drift, platinum RTD's have excellent long-term stability up to 800°C. Recalibration is unnecessary. The absence of special compensation leads and cold junction errors along with the high output of platinum RTD's means more accurate measurements than thermpcouples. No other industrial temperature sensor can match the superior accuracy of industrial platinum RTD's from -190°C to 800°C. |
